SUN IN VEDAS
The Vedas are the primary texts of Hinduism . Besides their spiritual value, they also give a unique view of everyday life in India four thousand years ago. The Vedas are also the most ancient extensive texts in an Indo-European language, and as such are invaluable in the study of comparative linguistics.
The Vedas reveal Surya, as the source of light for the entire world. Light was not just a material force but a power of life, love and intelligence for the Vedic People suurya aatmaa jagasatasthuushasca: RV. I.115,1.     The Sun God, is the visible form of the UNIVERSAL POWER, sustaining life of all Plants, animals and Humans. Surya is the soul of movable and immovable things.       Brahma is the creator. Brahma himself is said to have emerged from the navel of SriMahavishnu, hence is called “Hiranyagarbha”. He has four faces representing the four Vedas. Brahma created the Saptha Rishis from his manasa SaptaRishis, are the seven great sages in Indian Mythology. They have attained a semi-immortal status, that of an exceedingly long life span due to their Yogic power and by the power of their penance.   THE FOUR VEDAS   top
Saptharishis created the twelve suns
Saptharishis created the twelve suns from the visible sun by the saadhana of three powerful mantras.

Dynamic Equilibrium
Life is composed of five elements Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Akasha (the nature above the earth) in different proportions. Only a balancing of these five elements leads to health and bliss for human race. The Earth draws Energy from the Sun and gives it back again through the five Elements of nature. This is a Dynamic Equilibrium, any disturbance in nature’s balance causes calamity. For this, the saptha rishis used the five elements and the above three manthras consisting of AGNI [fire], VAYU [air] & SABDA [sound] giving rise to twelve suns.

GAYATHRI MANTRA & THE SUN. The very essence of the Mantra is as follows.
O nourishing Sun, solitary traveler, controller, source of life for all creatures, spread your light and subdue your dazzling splendor so that I may see your blessed Self. Even that very Self am I!

- Interpretation of Gayatri in English Gayathri Mantra is the embodiment of all forms of Spirit and does not belong to any particular sect of worship nor is it restricted to a certain community. It is universal in its scope. It contains in it the culture of no particular society, but the culture of humanity itself. This prayer appeals to the highest wisdom; to the brilliance of the cosmos to illumine an understanding of our true nature. The appeal requests that we become subtle and receptive to the divine wisdom that pervades the experience of life and is the essence of our very Self.The Gayatri may be considered as having three parts: (1) praise, (2) meditation, and (3) prayer. First the Divine is praised, then It is meditated upon in reverence, and finally an appeal is made to the Divine to awaken and strengthen the intellect, the unity of body, O God, Thou art the giver of life, the remover of pain and sorrow, the bestower of happiness; O Creator of the Universe, may we receive thy supreme, sin-destroying light; may Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.” top
SUN IN PURANAS
The Puranas are post-Vedic texts which typically contain a complete narrative of the history of the Universe from creation to destruction, genealogies of the kings, heroes and demigods, and descriptions of Hindu cosmology and geography. There are 17 or 18 canonical Puranas, divided into three categories, each named after a deity: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
	Hanuman’s guru is the SUN which shows that the SUN is a source of knowledge. Sri Rama in The Ramayana has performed the ‘Aditya Hrudayam’ to win the battle with Ravana proving sun as the source of courage and power. When Pandavas were in the forest Yudhistira prayed to the SUN who blessed him with the ‘Akhshya paatra’ -bestowing limitless food. The Bhagavatham describes the story of Satrajith and the ‘Samanthaka mani’ which he got from the SUN substantiating that, the SUN is the giver of wealth.

Kunthi, according to The Mahabharata, begot Karna by chanting the Surya mantra given by sage Durvasa which states that the SUN can bestow children. Karna was born with sahaja Kavachakundalas implying protection and health.
	SUN is the center point of our time division – Year, month, week, day, hour, minute and second calculations are based on SUN movements. This in our culture is referred to as Surya Siddantha. As early as 500 AD, Aryabhatta, Madhava, Nilakantha and Bhaskar (1114 AD-1185 AD) gave us the mathematical equations which proved SUN as the centre around which all the planets including Earth revolved (Heliocentric theory). We have experts in Surya Siddhantha such as Mahavathar babaji, Yogavathar babaji, Nikeleswarananada, Nemananda, Gyananananda, Visudhhananda, Samartha Ramadas, Narayanadath Srimali, and our own Brahmarishi Anil kumar joshi and Surya Swami.

One can get reflection of the Sun in a cup of water or on the mirror. The image in a cup is faint while that on the mirror is so bright that one cannot look at it. The Sun is unaffected by these different conditions. Similarly, the different kinds of divine consciousness which we come into contact on different planes are actually the reflections of ultimate reality in different grades of Chitha or Mind. Bhava is of utmost importance in our culture. Bhava (The longing) alone can generate something from nothing. It is the base for the MIND. This is the reason why before starting anything we begin with ‘Sankalpa’ OR AFFIRMATION. IF one does Sun Gazing with the above affiramations, surely one is bound to get the result. According to the degree of Bhava the results may be quicker or delayed but never denied.
Noted Scientist and President of India, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, described the Vedas as, “the oldest classics and the most precious treasure of India. The soul of Bharatiya sanskriti dwells in the Vedas. The entire world admits the importance of the Vedas.”
